It amazes me how many people jump into affiliate marketing and haven't the slightest idea of what they're doing. They think they can just pull out any old product, whip up a crumby ad and send it out to the masses. Trust me, this isn't the way to make sales as an affiliate marketer. While I make most of my money online promoting my own products, I do occasionally promote somebody else's product. I do this with quite a bit of success. If you want to know how, keep reading. I am sure you will find this article quite informative.
The first mistake that affiliate marketers make is that they don't buy the product. What's that you say? Why do I have to buy the product? Well, let me ask you a question. You're promoting whatever it is that you're promoting and somebody actually contacts you and asks you some questions about the product itself. If you never bought it and don't have the slightest idea of what's in it, how can you answer their questions? For that matter, how can you even promote something that you haven't tried yourself? Where is your credibility? So the first step is to buy the product. At the very least, ask the owner for a copy to review and let him know it's because you want to promote it. He just might give you one.
The second step is to read the product and write a review of it. No, not an ad, a review. You're going to objectively tell people what you think of this product. People don't like being sold to, but if you write an honest review and tell people the good and bad associated with the product, as long as there is more good than bad, they are quite likely to purchase from you. There is a psychological thing about reading honest reviews. People are more likely to believe you than if you send them an ad raving about something with your affiliate link hitting them squarely in the face. For me, reviews work very well.
The third step is to get your review out there. Post it on blogs and send it to your list. Do whatever you can to spread the word about what you honestly think about this product. And let me tell you something, even negative reviews can make sales. Sometimes, if you really bash something, people will buy it solely out of curiosity. I've made quite a few sales on negative reviews.
If you follow the above simple steps, you will stand out from the crowd of affiliate marketers who pump out ad after ad.
To YOUR Success,
Steven Wagenheim
